Rider Profile – 190 , 190, 190!

He’s the kind of guy you hear before you see. Michael Bailey’s personality is in its own class. Everyone knows “that guy” and well, for us, he is that guy. He is an all around kind of guy with the comedy and weekly tech tips for all of us clueless folks. Trying to bleed a rear brake line on an 85? “Hey, call Bailey.” Did I mention he is a doctor?

  • How did you get started racing? I started riding 11 years ago. Ten years ago I went to the Tri-Sanction at Perry Mountain for my first race on the recommendation from Bill at DBS. I had no idea what I was doing. I went about a mile into the woods and pulled over in fear, faked a fouled plug and went back to the truck.
  • What’s your favorite part of a race? The part between the green and checkered flag. Beast Mode!
  • Tell us a little bit about your business? You’re a sponsor of the series and race the races. Here’s your shameless plug. Well, since I race and trail ride I know what the racer/average Joe needs from their bike. I am very passionate about what I do and pride myself on doing things right or not at all and with the technology changing everyday I also find myself spending countless hours researching and learning new things so that I can provide the best service to the customer. The Secca series has been a big help to my business and getting my name out there. It is an awesome series to be involved with and I am glad I get to watch it grow. It’s my 2nd family!
  • But you’re also a doctor correct? You diagnosed your foot mid race last time. Oh yeah most definitely. When you have broke as many bones as me, self diagnosis is an essential part of my racing program. That and doughnuts and macaroni and cheese.
  • We’ve talked about you racing but tell us how you prepare? What makes Michael bailey who he is on the bike? Preparation? Whats that? I drink Diet Mtn Dew and eat one ginormous meal a day. You know I am a real athlete, I race. I am not trying to be the best at exercising. When I am on the bike I concentrate on having fun and enjoying the woods. I do a lot of bird watching during the race. My goggles have a 10x magnification lens in them and it really allows you to see some of the most beautiful birds in Alabama.
